Apple-A-Day Ratzlaff Ranch2018

Apple-A-Day Ranch is a local, family-run business in Sebastopol, CA. They raise apples and pears and process award-winning apple juice. During Fall they host U-Pick, an event that allows visitors to pick and purchase their own apples.


In the summer of 2018, the ranch sought a new logo to be used on their letterhead and other materials. The company CEO was pleased to choose one of the designs I offered. A couple months later at the start of Fall U-Pick season, he asked me to design and build them a website. Until that point, Apple-A-Day Ranch relied on their Facebook page to reach customers. A website would allow them to show off their ranch's professionalism and friendly personality.


Logo Creation

Apple-A-Day Ranch already used an apple on their juice labels, and they wished to convert that painterly image into something versatile. We aimed for a lightweight and elegant design that would print well on letterhead. The flowing outline of an apple was chosen, which could be used as a stand-alone logo and as a border for short messages. The solid version would be used for online media where thin lines are harder to see.

Website Development

The website's main purpose was to provide information on Apple-A-Day ciders and visiting during U-Pick. However, the scope of content we envisioned called for more than a static website. In order to show Apple-A-Day's commitment to its customers, we wanted to integrate the relationships already established on Facebook. WordPress was an ideal platform because it gave us a vast library of plugins to choose from. Our social media feeds including Facebook posts and reviews can be seen directly on the website. WordPress also gave us a built-in customer comment system. With great functionality and new photography, I was able to create a beautiful and intuitive website.
